As of January 31, 2005 New York State requires child care providers to meet new requirements for approval to administer medication to children in their care.
Category: Child Care Council
Posted by: icpoc
Child care providers must now meet the following requirements to be approved to administer medication in a child care setting:
  • Successfully complete Medication Administration Training (MAT)
  • Successfully complete Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Successfully complete First Aid
  • Complete a Health Care Plan and have it approved by a Health Care Consultant
    • Laurie Tice, RN, is on staff at the Child Care council to provide Health Care Consultant services free of charge, or another physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse may approve your Health Care Plan.

Once documentation of the above requirements is submitted to your licensor or registrar you will receive a new license or registration certificate stating Approved to Administer Medications.

Watch this website and/or the monthly newsletter for information on up-coming MAT, CPR & First Aid training opportunities.

Call Laurie Tice at 343-2344 if you have additional questions about the regulations to administer medication in child care settings, or if you would like assistance completing a Health Care Plan.
